The short answer
Dream Wallpaper Installers works in West Little River, FL 33147, just four miles east of our Hialeah base. We strip old and painted-over wallpaper, repair worn walls, and install new papers, murals, vinyl and grasscloth in homes and small businesses.
West Little River is one of the closest communities to our shop, only about four miles east of Hialeah in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, ZIP 33147. Being that near changes how we can work for you. A follow-up visit to check a seam, a second trip to finish a room after the primer cures, or a quick look at a wall before you order paper all take far less planning than they would across the county. Many houses in this area are modest, older single-family homes, and older walls tend to carry surprises. We have written this page around the problems we run into most often there, and how we solve each one.
Problem: Old Paper That Someone Painted Over
This is the single most common surprise in older homes. At some point a previous owner decided stripping wallpaper was too much work and rolled paint straight over it. Years later, the seams show through as faint vertical lines, corners start to curl, and the wall sounds hollow in spots when you tap it.
Paint seals the paper, so water and steam cannot reach the glue underneath. We score the surface to let moisture in, apply a removal solution, and give it time to soak before scraping. It is slow, careful work, and sometimes the drywall's paper face tears in places. When that happens, we seal the torn area with a specialty primer so it will not bubble, then skim it smooth.
Problem: Plaster and Drywall Patched Many Times
Decades of picture hooks, shelf anchors, moved outlets and repaired leaks leave a wall looking like a map. Paint can hide some of that history. Wallpaper, especially a thin or glossy one, often reveals it.
Our prep in these houses usually includes filling every hole, taping any cracks, feathering joint compound over uneven patches and sanding until the surface feels consistent under a flat palm. Then the wall gets a primer made for wallcoverings.
- Fill nail and anchor holes, including ones hidden under old paper
- Tape and mud hairline cracks near door frames and ceiling corners
- Skim coat rough or wavy sections
- Spot-prime water stains so they do not bleed through light papers
Problem: Moisture Behind Exterior Walls
Concrete-block construction is standard across this part of Miami-Dade. Block is sturdy, but it can pass moisture inward during the long wet season from May through October, especially on walls that take afternoon sun and rain. If a non-breathable covering goes over a damp wall, mildew can form behind it.
We take moisture readings on every exterior wall we plan to cover. Where readings are high, we may recommend addressing the source first, such as a leaking window seal, or choosing a breathable covering instead of solid vinyl. Steady air conditioning inside also makes a big difference.
Problem: A Plain Room That Needs Personality
Not every call is about fixing something. Plenty of West Little River owners simply want a room to feel more like theirs. An accent wall with a bold print, a mural across a bedroom wall, a textured grasscloth in a home office or a patterned ceiling in a dining room can each transform a space without remodeling.
Peel-and-stick is worth considering if you rent or expect to change your mind soon, provided the wall is smooth and sealed. Traditional pasted papers are the better bet for owners who want the result to last.
Working Nearby and Planning Around the Season
Besides West Little River, we regularly serve Opa-locka, Miami Springs, North Miami, Miami Gardens and the city of Miami. Local shops and offices can book commercial-grade vinyl for corridors and customer areas, with evening scheduling available.
Between June 1 and November 30, we watch tropical forecasts closely. If a storm might cut power for a day or more, we would rather postpone than leave fresh paste curing without air conditioning.
